Innovation and Transformation

A TALK Event

October 14th, 2008. 10:00am
Natural History Museum, London

Think Innovation and Transformation

Come to this event if you are in local government or the public sector and you want to know where all this transformation and new technology is taking us. This is an event that is motivated by ideas, innovation and debate. It is not a tech-event.

An exclusive event on strategy at the fraught and contested edge of social change. The aim of the day is to set out a broad and imaginative set of issues and to look forward to the next steps.

TALK is sponsoring this special event to be held in London on October 14th.

We are inviting three major thinkers/ practitioners to help guide the discussion:

Tom Reynolds, London Ambulance Service, blogger and author
Tom Reynolds is an Emergency Medical Technician for the London Ambulance Service. Most people call him an 'ambulance driver'. Based in East London he has been writing the blog Random Acts Of Reality ( http://randomreality.blogware.com ) about his experiences for the past five years. Previous to working for the ambulance service he trained as a teacher and was also an A&E nurse. Tom had his first book (Blood, Sweat and Tea) published by the Friday Project and a sequel is to be published later . Tom's interests include saving the NHS, Creative commons and copyright reform, and anything involving the internet or the future. He is currently looking for a nice cup of tea.

Malcolm Forbes, Director Regenesys and Council Member of RSA.
Malcolm's work with Regenesys takes him into the space between citizens wishing to actively embrace social media technology and the public sector who are trying to provide it.

Professor Peter Kawalek
Professor Peter Kawalek is well known for his work with Salford and Leeds Councils. Recently he has been working with Tameside on their transformation strategy. He has contributed to DCLG thinking on innovation and transformation since 2003. He also works with Office an Taoiseach in Dublin and has board-level or senior experience in the media, rail, software, ferry & ICT industries. Peter is Professor of Information Systems and Strategy at Manchester Business School. He is also Visiting Professor at Instituto de Empresa in Madrid and Letterkenny Institute of Technology in County Donegal. He is an external examiner at Trinity College, Dublin.

The Discussion

Discussion will centre on the following propositions:
The social and economic impact of the internet is deepening. Government, people and media will never be the same again. We will look creatively at the new strategic agenda that is emerging.

  • What are the issues that arise?
  • How will institutions be changed?
  • What are the economic and social factors driving change?
