About TALK
TALK is a wiki for the public sector in the UK and beyond. It started out as a Communities and Local Government project to try and help people in the local government sector work together more effectively. What began as a project to carry out research into the National Projects has morphed into an effort to provide people in local government with spaces where they can work together.
To do this, we've used wiki technology as a platform to enable multiple people to work together on the same content, at the same time without the need to ask others to upload or edit the content for you. So, it grows as you want it to grow.
But, TALK isn't a project about technology, it's a project that has the rather grandiose vision to build a place that people can make connections with each other, and learn from what other people are doing and collaborate on projects. The basic building block of TALK is a 'space'. You could have a space to support your project, user group, team or department. Once you have a space, you can write a blog, build as many wiki pages as you wish and add all manner of multimedia content to it. You can then add other people to be members of your space and work alongside you. It really is your space, because once it is setup you are responsible for it.
TALK isn't a repository determined by a web editor or intranet manager. The content is yours - developed by you, owned by you and it will grow as you want it to grow. Really, it's here to improve communication, collaboration and knowledge transfer across the sector.
Perhaps TALK is unlike anything else you have access to in the Local Government sector. Perhaps.

TALK Events
|
TALK isn't just about the technology platform. We'll be getting out there and talking to people in the good, 'old fashioned' traditional way! Keep an eye out for the next event in your area.
The current series of events are the TALK Round Tables. These are you opportunity to speak up on a number of issues that are important in the local government (and most others) sectors, right now.
If you've missed or can't attend one of the upcoming RT's, panic not! You can continue the debate on any of the pages, just by adding a comment.
You can also take a look at what happened at the first TALK Pecha Kucha and let us know what you think about unconferencing in the public sector. |
