About me...

  Sabbatical, moi?

Career Biography

I am a Professor at  Manchester Business School, University of Manchester where I am also Director of the Centre for Business Engagement. In addition, I am honoured to be a Visiting Professor at Instituto de Empresa, Madrid, Spain, & Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Letterkenny, County Donegal. I work with Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Office an Taoiseach, Trinity Dublin and University of Ulster in Ireland; all of this is great, I am a self-confessed celtophile. I've published two books and numerous papers, including publications in Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Information and Organisation, Global Information Management and DATA BASE. I also have a number of doctoral students including very senior managers in Germany and the USA. My work with the public sector started with Salford City Council, and has extended to working with the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, Charnwood Council, Leeds City Council, the Department of Communities and Local Government, Oldham Council, Tameside Council, and many others. I previously worked at Warwick Business School and the School of Computer Science in Manchester. My private sector experience is extensive including BT, Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, Fujitsu, Hoverspeed, ICL and Great North Eastern Railway.

What you don't know about me!

I am still building my annoying Blubberbot blimp. Don't get any time!

Proudest Achievement?

Serious things like my two magical daughters, my darling wife (had to say that..she's got spies) and family.... but a little less seriously, as I flew the car from Buxton to Whaley Bridge recently, I thought to myself that for all my degree qualifications, I am proudest of achieving a grade A English Literature, A-Level. Thank you Mrs Dowling! We really do love our teachers (eventually)! Outside of this, I have flown a glider and will do so again ... when I get time. And I'm pretty good on the wing (footie). And we have a wee place in Ireland.

I'm tempted to add you as a 'featured blogger' on the dashboard. Any objection?

Also, do you want me to put the template for your homepage up so you can edit it?

What on earth is a Blubberbot pilot? It sounds like something off Roly,Poly,Oly.

Reply To This

Ah, now I could say what is Roly Poly Oly?

The blubberbot is a blimp...have a look here and here

It floats around looking for light sources, other blubberbots and mobile phone signals. it's like a member of the family now...well it would be if his right 'eye' wasn't disconnected. Means he just goes round in circles.

Well, Mr. Kawalek, you seem to be a really educated and intelligent person. Such people are very important for the society, because they create our history and have a direct impact on our future. Not long ago I happened to download an interview with the University Professor on search engine on torrent files http://www.picktorrent.com in which he described all the hardships and difficulties elite experiences. It is unbelievable! Now you are found to be in the shade, but your time will undoubtedly come. I wish you good luck and be ready to introduce changes when it happens
